Slovakia's Arts Fund Blocks 2.1 Million Euros in Multi-Year Grants, Cultural Organizations Face Financial Crisis
The Arts Support Fund (FPU) canceled ongoing multi-year grants worth 2.1 million euros, affecting over thirty festival organizers, magazine publishers, and cultural centers across Slovakia. The fund's board terminated the grants one month ago, prompting public protests from affected organizations now facing financial difficulties. Slovakia's Culture Ministry, led by Minister Lukáš Machala, called a press conference on March 26 alongside FPU Board Chairman Matúš Oľha to address the controversy. The Arts Support Fund is a state institution that provides government funding for cultural projects and organizations throughout Slovakia. The cancellation has left numerous cultural institutions struggling with debts as they had planned their operations around the expected multi-year funding commitments.
