Mountain rescue teams conducted a nighttime operation near Gerlach, Slovakia's highest peak, to assist an elderly tourist who became stranded in a gully. The hiker had violated a seasonal closure in the High Tatras mountain range and was subsequently fined for the infraction. The High Tatras, located in northern Slovakia along the border with Poland, implement seasonal closures on certain trails during winter months for safety reasons due to avalanche risk and harsh weather conditions.
