Ten Eastern Slovak Municipalities Condemn Audit Office Controls as 'Harassment'

Ten municipalities in eastern Slovakia have jointly condemned the Supreme Audit Office of Slovakia (NKÚ) for what they describe as harassment during recent financial controls. The local governments issued a collective statement expressing dissatisfaction with the audit office's methods and rejecting accusations related to their participation in a bond program operated by East Slovak Water Company (VVS). The Supreme Audit Office is Slovakia's independent state institution responsible for auditing public finances and the use of state resources. The municipalities' coordinated response suggests significant tension between local governments in the region and the national auditing body over the handling of investigations into the water company's financing arrangements.
