Changes to the law governing Slovakia's second-largest city Košice took effect Monday, guaranteeing that each of the city's districts will have at least one representative in the municipal council. Under the new legislation, each košická mestská časť (municipal district) must have a minimum of one councilor in the city assembly. The law also specifies that for electoral district purposes in municipal council elections, local areas will be treated as municipal districts. Košice, located in eastern Slovakia, is divided into multiple administrative districts that manage local affairs within the broader city structure.
