Ukraine's Zelensky Bans Military Attacks on Red Square During Victory Day Parade

Share:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree prohibiting his country's armed forces from attacking Moscow's Red Square during Russia's May 9 Victory Day military parade. Zelensky announced the decision on social media platform X, stating that humanitarian issues and the lives of Ukrainian prisoners of war are more important to Ukraine than Red Square in Moscow. The decree represents a response to recent ceasefire developments between the two countries. The Victory Day parade commemorates the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany in World War II and is considered one of Russia's most significant annual military displays. Red Square, located adjacent to the Kremlin in central Moscow, serves as the traditional venue for the parade where Russian military forces showcase their equipment and march before senior government officials.
