The director of the State Opera in Banská Bystrica has warned that the institution must spend millions of euros or risk losing the funding entirely. The warning came during discussions between heads of the opera's artistic ensembles and a representative from the Ministry of Culture. The artistic directors questioned whether they would be able to prepare at least one premiere for adult audiences given the current funding constraints. The State Opera in Banská Bystrica is one of Slovakia's regional cultural institutions, serving the central Slovak region with opera and ballet performances.
