Modern Transport Hub Opens at Petržalka's Former Unfinished Metro Site

Bratislava has opened a new modern transport interchange called Južné mesto (Southern City) in the Petržalka district, transforming the site of the capital's abandoned metro project. The new hub represents a significant upgrade to public transportation infrastructure in Slovakia's largest housing estate. Petržalka, a sprawling residential district built during the communist era, houses around 100,000 residents and has long struggled with transportation connectivity to central Bratislava. The area was originally planned to be served by Bratislava's metro system, but the underground railway project was never completed, leaving behind unfinished tunnels and stations that became symbols of failed urban planning. The opening of the Južné mesto transport hub marks a practical solution to the district's mobility challenges, providing residents with improved connections to the rest of the capital through modern public transport facilities.
