Slovakia's Longest Highway Tunnel Closes for Two Weeks of Maintenance Work

The Višňové tunnel, Slovakia's longest highway tunnel, will be completely closed for two weeks starting Monday, forcing traffic diversions and delays along the D1 highway route. The closure will last until mid-May as maintenance work is carried out on the critical infrastructure. During the closure, transit traffic will be rerouted through Strečno, requiring drivers to plan for significantly longer travel times through the mountainous region of northern Slovakia. The D1 highway is Slovakia's main east-west arterial route, connecting Bratislava with eastern regions of the country.
