Progressive Slovakia and Democrats Explore Closer Cooperation Ahead of 2027 Elections

Share:

Progressive Slovakia (PS) and the Democrats party are intensifying discussions about potential cooperation for the 2027 parliamentary elections, marking a significant development in Slovakia's opposition landscape. Ivan Korčok, deputy chairman of Progressive Slovakia, confirmed during a television discussion that talks between the two parties are entering a new phase, though he described the negotiations as having an "open end" with no predetermined outcome. The potential alliance has been developing for approximately eighteen months, during which Progressive Slovakia, currently the largest opposition party in parliament, has been building closer ties with the Democrats, a smaller extra-parliamentary party. While both parties acknowledge ongoing discussions, the specific form of any cooperation remains undetermined, leaving open questions about whether they would run on a joint electoral list, form a pre-election coalition, or pursue other collaborative arrangements for the next national elections.
