A new theatre called Divadlo66 has been established in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia's central city and regional capital. The theatre will debut with a work by Martin Kukučín, one of Slovakia's most prominent 19th-century writers known for his realistic portrayals of Slovak rural life. The theatre's name references the I/66 highway, which the founders view as a metaphor for direction and connecting artistic ambitions within the central Slovak region. Banská Bystrica, with a population of around 80,000, serves as an important cultural center for the Banská Bystrica Region.
