Deputy Mayor of Košice Announces Bid for Regional Governor
Lucia Gurbáľová, deputy mayor of Košice, officially announced her candidacy for governor of the Košice Self-Governing Region, becoming the first woman to enter the race for the position. Gurbáľová made the announcement surrounded by a team of local government experts, regional council candidates, and representatives of the Christian Democratic Movement, a conservative political party. She stated her primary motivation is to advocate for people throughout the region, claiming the current regional governor has neglected their needs. The Košice Self-Governing Region is one of Slovakia's eight regional administrative units, with the governor serving as the elected head of regional government responsible for healthcare, education, transportation, and regional development.
