Bear Population Growing in Polish Tatras, Scientists Count 62 Bears

Share:

Scientists conducting a census in the Polish Tatras mountains have identified 62 bears, finding 38 females and 24 males. The count indicates the bear population in the region is increasing. The Tatra Mountains, which straddle the border between Poland and Slovakia, are home to one of Central Europe's most important brown bear populations, with conservation efforts in both countries aimed at protecting these large carnivores that were once threatened by hunting and habitat loss.
