Marjane Satrapi, the acclaimed Iranian-French author and filmmaker best known for her autobiographical graphic novel and animated film "Persepolis," has died. Satrapi was a prominent critic of the Iranian government and used her artistic works to chronicle her experiences growing up during the Islamic Revolution and the Iran-Iraq War. Her graphic memoir "Persepolis," which depicted her childhood in Iran and later exile in Europe, became an international bestseller and was adapted into an Academy Award-nominated animated film in 2007. Through her work, Satrapi provided Western audiences with an intimate perspective on life under Iran's theocratic regime and became one of the most recognizable voices of Iranian dissent in contemporary literature and cinema.
