Israel Continues Strikes in Lebanon Despite Extended Ceasefire, Hezbollah Fires Rockets
Share:
Israel continued military strikes against targets in Lebanon that it says belong to the militant group Hezbollah, despite an ongoing ceasefire that began on April 17 and was recently extended for several weeks. The Iranian-backed Hezbollah movement also launched rockets during the same period. The ceasefire violations highlight the fragile nature of the truce between Israel and Hezbollah, which controls much of southern Lebanon and maintains a large arsenal of rockets and missiles. The current ceasefire was designed to reduce tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border, where exchanges of fire have been frequent in recent years.
