European Commission Launches Infringement Procedure Against Slovakia Over Dual Gas Station Pricing
Share:
The European Commission has officially launched an infringement procedure against Slovakia over the practice of dual pricing at gas stations. The procedure targets Slovakia's system where different prices are displayed for fuel depending on payment method or customer status. Infringement procedures are formal legal processes the European Commission uses when it believes EU member states are violating European Union law. The Commission can ultimately refer cases to the European Court of Justice, which has the power to impose financial penalties on non-compliant member states. Slovakia now faces pressure to address the pricing practices that Brussels considers incompatible with EU regulations on consumer protection and market competition.
