Russia claims Armenia has no alternative to Russian gas imports despite EU ambitions

Share:

Russia asserted that Armenia has no viable alternative to Russian natural gas supplies, even if the country pursues European Union membership. Moscow stated that Armenia would be forced to continue purchasing Russian gas at higher prices should it join the EU. Armenia imported 82 percent of its natural gas consumption from Russia last year, making it heavily dependent on Moscow for energy. The country, which hosts Russian military bases, faces significant energy security challenges as it considers its geopolitical alignment between Russia and the West.
