Slovak Railways Announces Plans to Revitalize Abandoned Bratislava Station
Železnice Slovenskej republiky (ŽSR), Slovakia's state railway company, has announced plans to revive the long-abandoned Filiálka railway station in central Bratislava. The station, located near the busy Račianske mýto and Trnavské mýto intersections, once served freight and commuter trains but has been abandoned for over twenty years. The rail tracks and surrounding area have deteriorated into wasteland, with the boarded-up station building becoming an eyesore in the Slovak capital. The site has frustrated urban planners and residents for decades, as the valuable city-center land remains unused while being frequented only by dog walkers. ŽSR's sudden announcement to revitalize the station represents a potential solution to a long-standing urban planning challenge in Bratislava.
