EU Will Not Ban Conversion Therapy for LGBT+ People, Wants Member States to Act
Share:
The European Union will not introduce a blanket ban on conversion therapy for LGBT+ people, instead calling on member states to take action on the issue themselves. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that conversion practices have no place in the EU. The decision leaves individual member countries to determine their own policies regarding the controversial practice, which attempts to change a person's sexual orientation or gender identity through psychological or spiritual interventions. The EU's approach reflects the bloc's limited authority over social policy areas that remain primarily under national jurisdiction, despite the Commission's stated opposition to such practices.
