Initial Rock Blasting Insufficient, TANAP Plans Additional Closures Below Hrebienok

Share:

Slovakia's Tatra National Park (TANAP) will implement further trail closures in the area below Hrebienok following an initial controlled rock blasting operation that failed to fully eliminate dangerous rock formations. The hazardous rocky outcrops continue to pose safety risks to hikers and visitors in this popular area of the High Tatras mountains. TANAP, which manages Slovakia's oldest national park established in 1949, regularly conducts safety operations to protect visitors from rockfall dangers in the mountainous terrain. The Hrebienok area, accessible by funicular railway from the resort town of Starý Smokovec, is one of the most visited locations in the Tatras and serves as a starting point for numerous hiking trails.
