Košice plans to start construction of its first state-supported rental apartments this autumn, with 5,400 units planned over the coming years. Mayor Jaroslav Polaček and Eva Lisová, director of the State-Supported Rental Housing Agency, confirmed during a public discussion that the eastern Slovak city has become a national leader in state-supported rental housing development. The announcement was made during an interactive event called "City within a City" held at the Aupark shopping center. State-supported rental housing represents a government initiative to address Slovakia's housing shortage by providing affordable rental options as an alternative to homeownership, with Košice emerging as the most advanced city in implementing this program.
