Turkey to Reopen Border Crossing with Syria After 12 Years

Share:

Turkey will reopen a border crossing with Syria that has been closed since 2014, marking a significant shift in regional dynamics after more than a decade of closure. The crossing was shuttered in 2014 when the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) seized control of the Syrian border town of Tal Abjad, located near the crossing point in northern Syria. The SDF is a U.S.-backed militia alliance that emerged during Syria's civil war and has controlled significant territory in northern and eastern Syria, often creating tensions with Turkey, which views Kurdish armed groups as a security threat.
