The northern Slovak city of Liptovský Mikuláš has begun collecting biodegradable waste from residents as part of a new municipal program. The waste collection operates according to a predetermined schedule that varies by district within the city. Liptovský Mikuláš, located in the Žilina region, joins other Slovak municipalities in expanding waste separation efforts to include organic materials, which can be composted rather than sent to landfills.
