Construction workers have completed new geothermal wells near the village of Ďurkov outside Košice, marking a major milestone in Slovakia's second-largest city's transition to renewable heating. The wells are part of a larger geothermal energy project designed to provide heating for Košice's urban areas. According to the partnership agreement governing the project, construction of the heat distribution pipeline and heat exchange station is scheduled to begin in September 2025, with completion targeted for July 2028. The geothermal project represents a significant investment in renewable energy infrastructure for eastern Slovakia, where Košice serves as the regional economic center.
