Italian President Sergio Mattarella officially opened the 2026 Winter Olympics being held in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo. The opening ceremony took place at the amphitheater in Verona, which also hosted the closing ceremony for the 2026 Winter Games. The Olympics mark Italy's return as host of the Winter Games, with events split between the northern cities of Milan and the Alpine resort town of Cortina d'Ampezzo in the Dolomites.
