The village of Liptovské Sliače near Ružomberok in northern Slovakia has set a record for erecting a maypole measuring nearly 37 meters in height. The achievement represents the tallest May pole constructed in Slovakia. In 2010, the same village had previously established a record for having the highest number of maypoles erected in a single municipality. The tradition of raising decorated poles in May is a widespread folk custom across Central Europe, typically celebrated as part of spring festivals and community gatherings.
