WHO Member States Reject Taiwan's Invitation to Annual Geneva Assembly

Share:

World Health Organization member states rejected a proposal to invite Taiwan to participate in the organization's annual assembly in Geneva. China had previously announced it would block any such invitation. The decision prevents Taiwan from participating in the World Health Assembly, the WHO's decision-making body that brings together health ministers and officials from around the world each year. Taiwan's exclusion from WHO activities has been a contentious issue, as the island operates its own health system and has sought greater international health cooperation, particularly highlighted during global health crises. China considers Taiwan a breakaway province and opposes its participation in international organizations where statehood is implied.
