Eighteen-year-old Slovak chess player Degťarov claimed the European Championship title in a remarkable upset victory. Seeded 126th before the tournament began, Degťarov finished first with an impressive record of eight wins, two draws and one loss. His triumph represents one of the biggest surprises in recent European chess competition, with the teenager overcoming more than 100 higher-ranked players to claim the continental crown. Among Slovak participants, Haring achieved the second-best result for the country.
