Eastern Slovakia Deploys Mobile Shops to Combat Food Deserts with 60,000 Euro Investment

The Košice regional government has allocated 60,000 euros to support mobile shops serving communities that lack grocery stores. The initiative aims to address food deserts in eastern Slovakia, where residents in remote villages and underserved areas struggle to access basic food supplies. Mobile vendors will travel to these locations on scheduled routes, bringing essential groceries and household items directly to residents who otherwise face long journeys to reach the nearest store. The program represents the regional authority's effort to ensure food security and maintain quality of life in sparsely populated rural areas where traditional retail businesses are not economically viable.
