Officials in Košice laid the foundation stone for four apartment buildings that will provide 48 rental units as part of a transitional housing program in the Luník IX district. Mayor Marcel Šaňa officially handed over the construction site to contractors on Monday, marking the start of the project designed to offer temporary accommodation. Luník IX is Europe's largest Roma settlement, located on the outskirts of Slovakia's second-largest city, and has long struggled with poverty, inadequate housing conditions, and social exclusion. The transitional housing initiative aims to provide Roma families with improved living conditions while potentially serving as a stepping stone to more permanent housing solutions.
