Slovak-Vietnamese Writer Uses Literature as Therapy Following Family Deaths

Share:

Lucia Hô-Chí, a Slovak-Vietnamese author, has written a book titled "A to je všetko" (And That's All) as a form of personal therapy following the deaths of her father and sister. The book, dedicated to her father, explores her Slovak-Vietnamese identity through intimate family portraits. Writing became her coping mechanism during the grieving process, particularly after her father's death, though she admits she still struggles to accept her sister's passing. The book includes vivid descriptions of her father's character, portraying him as a loud Slovak-Vietnamese man who follows Slovak traditions except fasting periods, calls soy cubes "crackling," and considers chicken a vegetarian dish. The work represents both a tribute to her multicultural heritage and a personal journey through grief and loss.
