14,000 Artists and Cultural Workers Stage Major Protest March in Bratislava
Approximately 14,000 artists, cultural workers, and supporters marched through central Bratislava on Tuesday in what organizers called the "Great Cultural Mobilization," the largest protest by Slovakia's cultural community to date. The demonstrators filled the streets with music, drums, whistles, and performances by stilt-walking artists while chanting "It's time to raise our voices" and delivering a pointed message to Culture Minister Martina Šimkovičová: "Martina is out of luck, we stand together." The massive procession blocked traffic in the city center as participants voiced their opposition to current cultural policies. The protest represents a significant escalation in tensions between the Slovak government and the country's artistic community, highlighting growing dissatisfaction with the Culture Ministry's direction under the current administration led by the ruling coalition.
