Protected Works by Frida Kahlo and Colleagues to Return to Mexico in 2028

State-protected artworks by renowned Mexican painter Frida Kahlo and her contemporaries will return to Mexico in 2028 following a controversy over their transfer to Spain. The repatriation comes after disputes surrounding the movement of the culturally significant works from their home country. Kahlo, one of Mexico's most celebrated artists known for her self-portraits and works inspired by Mexican culture and nature, remains a symbol of Mexican artistic heritage decades after her death in 1954.
