Police destroy World War-era ammunition found in northeastern Slovakia forests

Police explosive ordnance disposal units destroyed artillery shells and a grenade discovered in forests in northeastern Slovakia. The ammunition, dating from wartime, was safely neutralized at the location where it was found. Such discoveries of unexploded ordnance from World War II remain relatively common across Slovakia, particularly in rural and forested areas where battles were fought or military equipment was abandoned decades ago.
