Cycle-powered rail cars race on abandoned railway track in Slovak mountain region

Share:

Families competed in a unique rail bike race in the mountain village of Hronec in central Slovakia, pedaling 200-kilogram cycle-powered rail cars along a 1.5-kilometer stretch of railway track. The unusual vehicles, which achieve relatively high speeds especially at the start when riders have full energy, accommodated families with small children seated in front or rear compartments. The rail bikes represent a distinctive form of transport not found elsewhere in Slovakia, offering visitors a novel way to experience the region's railway heritage through the scenic Horehronie area.
