Jan Hraběta, a veteran Czech actor and long-time member of the renowned Divadlo Járy Cimrmana (Jára Cimrman Theatre) in Prague, has died. Hraběta joined the theatre company in the late 1970s and became known to audiences for his memorable performances in iconic roles including the legendary ancestor Praotec Čech, the character Varel Frištenský, and the king in the fairy tale "Dlouhý, Široký a Krátkozraký" (Tall, Wide and Short-Sighted). The Divadlo Járy Cimrmana is one of the Czech Republic's most celebrated theatrical institutions, famous for its satirical plays centered around the fictional character Jára Cimrman, who is portrayed as a forgotten Czech genius and polymath.
