Actor Ondřej Daniš Rejects Work with Slovak Public Television Over Censorship Concerns

Share:

Slovak actor Ondřej Daniš has refused to work with Slovak Radio and Television (STVR), the country's public broadcaster, citing opposition to what he calls censorship under the network's leadership. Daniš specifically named STVR director Igor Machala as a "censor" and stated he "had to show backbone" by rejecting the work opportunity. The actor said he would rather "perform for tips" than compromise his principles, and has put this philosophy into practice by performing street shows following a protest in Banská Bystrica. Slovak Radio and Television has faced criticism from opposition politicians and media freedom advocates since the current government restructured the public broadcaster and appointed new leadership aligned with the ruling coalition's media policies.
