The controversial "Glow Puck" technology, widely criticized as one of the worst sports innovations when it debuted at the 1996 NHL All-Star Game, continues to be used at ice hockey world championships three decades later. The Fox Broadcasting Company introduced the augmented reality feature to help American television viewers better follow the fast-paced sport by making the puck glow and trail on screen. Despite being labeled a failure and quickly abandoned by the NHL due to fan backlash, the technology has found lasting applications in international hockey broadcasting, demonstrating how innovations initially rejected by audiences can eventually find their niche in sports presentation.
