Bratislava Loses at Least 45 Sports Facilities as City Faces Football Infrastructure Crisis

Bratislava has lost at least 45 sports facilities in recent years, leaving the Slovak capital with a growing shortage of recreational infrastructure. Mayor Matúš Vallo and football club Slovan Bratislava are working together to address what they describe as debts left by former Slovak Football Association president Ján Kováčik. While the Slovak Football Association built new stadiums and training facilities across multiple regions during Kováčik's leadership in recent years, none were constructed in Bratislava. The proposed sports complex at Zlaté piesky, a recreational area in the city, will not fully resolve Bratislava's broader infrastructure problems, according to city officials.
