Mountain Rescuers Intervene at Night Below Gerlach Peak After Tourist Ignores Seasonal Closure

Share:

Mountain rescue teams conducted a nighttime operation below Gerlach, Slovakia's highest peak, to assist an elderly tourist who became trapped in a gully. The tourist had violated a seasonal closure restriction in the High Tatras mountain range and was subsequently fined for the infraction. Seasonal closures are implemented in Slovakia's mountain areas during certain periods to protect both wildlife and ensure visitor safety, particularly in challenging terrain around peaks like Gerlach, which rises to 2,655 meters in the Tatra National Park along the Slovak-Polish border.
