Slovak Prime Minister Meets with Belarusian Opposition Leader Tikhanovskaya

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico met with Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya to discuss European support for Belarus and Ukraine. The meeting focused on the importance of unified European backing for both countries. Tikhanovskaya has been the leading figure of Belarus's democratic opposition since the disputed 2020 presidential election that sparked mass protests against longtime authoritarian ruler Alexander Lukashenko. She fled to Lithuania following the election and has since advocated internationally for democratic change in Belarus. The meeting comes as Slovakia, a member of both the European Union and NATO, continues to navigate regional security challenges amid ongoing tensions in Eastern Europe.
