Košice Mayor Jaroslav Polaček has announced plans to restore tram service to Hlavná Street, the city's main thoroughfare, marking a return after a 40-year hiatus. Trams last operated on Košice's Main Street four decades ago before being removed from the historic city center. The restoration plan includes the installation of retractable bollards to regulate vehicle access to the downtown area, allowing trams to operate while controlling other traffic in the pedestrian-friendly zone. The move represents a significant shift in Košice's urban transport policy, as the eastern Slovak city seeks to reintroduce public transit to its central historic district.
