The project is backed by an associate of Marian Kočner, a controversial businessman currently imprisoned for orchestrating the murder of investigative journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kušnírová in 2018. The city council initially blocked the first attempt to approve the development, reflecting local opposition to converting the former waste site into residential housing. Kočner became a central figure in Slovak organized crime investigations after the 2018 murders exposed his extensive network of influence in politics, media, and business.
