Mária Berdisová, the only woman to ever serve on the Slovak Football Association's executive committee, withdrew her candidacy in recent elections at the last possible moment, stating she could not work under President Ján Kováčik's leadership. Berdisová accused Kováčik of deliberately misleading the organization and said she felt ashamed to use company cars bearing SFZ stickers during her previous tenure. Despite facing a mobile phone controversy, Kováčik won the recent elections and will continue as president of Slovakia's national football governing body. The Slovak Football Association oversees the country's professional and amateur football leagues and manages the national teams.
