Environmental activists sue ministry over beaver dam removal permit in Tatra Mountains

Share:

Environmental activists have filed a lawsuit against Slovakia's environment ministry, challenging the government's decision to grant a permit for the removal of a beaver dam in the Tatra Mountains. The activists claim the ministry made an error in approving the dam's removal. The Tatra Mountains, located in northern Slovakia along the border with Poland, are a protected national park area and UNESCO Biosphere Reserve known for their pristine alpine ecosystem. Beaver populations in Slovakia have been recovering in recent decades after near-extinction, and their dam-building activities often create conflicts between conservation efforts and human development or land use interests.
