Košice Officials Address Rising Wave of Container Fires in City

Officials in Košice met at the district office on Monday to address a growing number of nighttime arson attacks on garbage containers, particularly in the southern district of the eastern Slovak city. Police confirmed they are intensively investigating the deliberate fires, which have been occurring throughout Košice but are concentrated in the Juh (South) district. District police director Štefan Szalontai and Juh district mayor Anna Súkeníková urged residents at a press briefing to immediately call emergency lines 158 or 159 if they observe suspicious individuals near container stations. The meeting reflects growing concern over what appears to be a coordinated campaign of vandalism targeting the city's waste management infrastructure.
