Ukrainian Foreign Minister Thanks Slovakia for Supporting EU Membership Bid

Share:

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha officially thanked Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár for Slovakia's open support of Ukraine's path to European Union membership. In a post on social media platform X, Sybiha particularly highlighted Bratislava's willingness to support the opening of negotiation clusters for Ukraine's EU accession process. The exchange represents a significant diplomatic development given Slovakia's complex position on Ukraine since the war began. While Slovakia has provided military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, the current government led by Prime Minister Robert Fico's Smer-SD party has taken a more cautious stance on some aspects of support compared to the previous administration. Blanár serves as foreign minister in Fico's coalition government, which also includes the nationalist Slovak National Party.
